The Lady with the Alligator Purse Mini-unit {Puppet Freebie}

If you want a zany book, that happens to also be a song, look no further, this is one of my girls’ favorites! Last month we participated in the Love Books- Summer Book Exchange put together by The Educator’s Spin on It.  We received a fun package from Toddler Approved! focusing on the book Owen, but here is a peek at what they received from us based on the book The Lady with the Alligator Purse.  Don’t you just love her son’s expression as he’s pretending to be an alligator?!

We had so much fun putting this together and searching for alligator items to include.  We found the alligator bag, stencil, and alligator pencils through Oriental Trading Co. and created the rest!

I’ve put the mini-unit up on my TpT store and Teachers Notebook store, including additional activities.   {update} I’ve included it below for free!  Just click the picture for access to the file.

Included are:

  • a Memory Game
  • Puppet Pictures
  • Key words/Rhymes/Opposites
  • Puzzle
  • Coloring Page
  • Craft and Art Idea

Alligator Purse Mini Unit

The puppet pictures are free for you through GoogleDoc.  You can access them by clicking the following picture (it is a 2 page document).

Alligator Purse Puppets

Simply copy onto heavyweight paper and add popsicle sticks to the back to create the puppets.  You will notice the doctor and the nurse are give in both genders.  It’s important for kids to know that women can be doctors and men can be nurses.  Nip the common stereotype in the bud!

I hope you and your young ones enjoy this story as much as we do.  I’ve read it so many millions of times that I can retell it from memory.  The kids get a kick out of this as we’re driving the car…they love the story!

  1. This is so cute! I was planning on using the book soon, so this was perfect timing! Thank you for this great download! I’m now one of your followers via email (I didn’t see a Google Friend Connect). I am a Newbie Blogger, so I appreciate all of the sharing of advice and ideas. Come on over for a visit sometime.
